Etsy Offsite Ads Fees, Explained Honestly
No fee generates more angry seller threads than this one — usually because it lands on an order that felt organic. Here's how the fee actually works, who can escape it, and how to price so it stops being a surprise.
Rates below are Etsy's published structure as of August 2026 — always confirm against Etsy's own fee policy.
The four things sellers get surprised by
1. The fee is 15% — or 12% for larger shops
When a buyer clicks one of Etsy's ads on Google, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Bing, or similar and then orders from your shop, Etsy takes an Offsite Ads fee on that order. The standard rate is 15%; shops that made $10,000+ USD in the past 365 days pay 12% instead — but at that level enrollment also becomes mandatory.
2. The 30-day window catches repeat buyers
The fee doesn't just apply to the item that was clicked. If a buyer clicks an Offsite Ad and orders anything from your shop within 30 days, that order carries the fee — which is how a repeat customer who once clicked an ad can trigger a fee on a purchase that feels entirely organic.
3. It's charged on the whole order
The fee applies to the order total including shipping, on top of Etsy's regular transaction and processing fees — it doesn't replace them. Etsy caps the Offsite Ads fee at $100 per order, and you pay nothing when the ads don't produce an attributed order.
4. Small shops can opt out — large shops can't
Under $10,000 in trailing-12-month sales you can turn Offsite Ads off in your shop settings. Over that line, Etsy's published policy makes participation mandatory. If you're stuck in, the realistic response is pricing: build the possibility of the fee into your margins rather than absorbing it as a surprise.
See what the fee does to your margin
Our free Etsy fee & profit calculator has an Offsite Ads toggle: flip it on and see, per listing, whether an attributed sale still leaves you a profit — with every other Etsy fee and your country's VAT included. Two minutes per product ends the guessing.
And the longer game: traffic you build yourself — Pinterest pins, captions, your own audience — carries no per-sale ad fee at all. That's the traffic Postivia generates for you every week.
Questions sellers ask
Why was I charged an Offsite Ads fee on a repeat customer?
Because attribution runs on a 30-day window from the ad click, not on whether the buyer 'really' found you through the ad. If that customer clicked any Offsite Ad for your shop in the past 30 days — even while already knowing you — their orders in that window carry the fee. Frustrating, but it's how Etsy's published attribution works.
Can I opt out of Etsy Offsite Ads?
Only if your shop made under $10,000 USD in the past 365 days — then it's a setting you can switch off. Above that threshold, Etsy makes participation mandatory at the reduced 12% rate. Check Etsy's current fee policy before deciding; the thresholds and rates are theirs to change.
Are Etsy Offsite Ads worth it, or should I opt out?
Run the maths per listing rather than on principle: a 15% fee on top of regular fees can erase the margin on low-priced items while still being profitable on high-margin ones. If your margins can't absorb an occasional 15%, opting out (while you can) is reasonable — especially if you're building traffic of your own that carries no per-sale fee.
How do I price for Offsite Ads without raising every price 15%?
You don't need to — only attributed orders carry the fee. Price so your margin survives the occasional 15% hit: know each listing's true margin after all fees, and nudge up the products where one attributed sale would put you underwater. A fee calculator that models the Offsite Ads toggle shows exactly which listings those are.
